- Organic
food has no chemicals. In the world we live in today, there are chemicals
all around us: in the paint on the walls, in the cleaning supplies
we use and even in the clothes that we wear. If there are any means
possible to shy away from chemicals, it should be taken. Organic foods
is that means.
- Organic
foods have more nutrients. All of the chemicals used on plants and
livestock today strip away part of the vital nutrients our bodies
need to be healthy. Studies show that organic foods have more vitamins,
minerals and antioxidants needed to support healthy organs and a healthy
immune system than treated foods.
- Organic
foods have not been genetically modified. In the fast paced world,
we are always trying to come up with better and faster ways of doing
things. Therefore, farmers are trying to play with nature and genetically
modify animals and plants for this means. In doing so, they are also
destroying vital nutrients and adding unnecessary elements.
- Organic
foods do not contain chemical additives that can cause health problems
such as heart disease, osteoporosis, migraines and hyperactivity.
Amongst the additives banned for organic products are chemical preservatives,
coloring agents, hydrogenated fat, and monosodium glutamate.
- Organic
foods avoid pesticides. Over 400 chemical pesticides are routinely
used in non-organic farming and residues are often present in non-organic
food. The bottom line is that pesticides are poisons and can be harmful
to humans.
- Organic
foods protect our children. A child is exposed to four times as many
cancer-causing pesticides in his daily life compared to an adult.
Organic food contains no carcinogenic pesticides.
- Organic
food is healthy as it contains higher levels of vitamin C and essential
minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron and chromium as well as
cancer-fighting antioxidants. Organic Food Tastes Great! Well-balanced
soils produce strong, healthy plants that become nourishing food for
our palates. Moreover, organic food products are made with natural
ingredients and not with artificial flavoring agents.
- Organic
foods have no hidden costs. Organic foods might seem more expensive
than conventional foods. Conventional food prices do not reflect hidden
costs borne by the taxpayer in the form of subsidies, pesticide regulation
and testing, hazardous waste disposal and environmental damage.
- Organic
foods protect farm workers' health too! Chemical farming seriously
damages farm workers' health. Farm workers are more exposed to chemicals
that are sprayed on conventional food crops, and are as such at a
higher risk for cancer, respiratory problems and other major diseases.
